Personal attention, confidence and enjoyment in the water
At Well Cares Swimming, we believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, confident and comfortable in the water. Whether you are learning to swim for the first time, overcoming a fear of water, improving your swimming technique or looking for specialised swimming lessons for your child, we are here to guide you.
We specialise in adult swimming lessons and swimming lessons for children and adolescents with special needs, offering a personal, patient and inclusive approach. Our philosophy is based on a simple belief: everyone learns differently, and everyone deserves the opportunity to develop at their own pace.
With swimming lessons available in Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Diemen and Aalsmeer, we welcome both Dutch and international swimmers. Our lessons are available in English and Dutch.
Individual attention within group swimming lessons
What makes Well Cares Swimming different is our commitment to personal attention. We teach in small groups, but our approach is individual. Rather than expecting everyone to follow exactly the same programme, we adapt our lessons to each swimmer’s abilities, experience, confidence and personal goals.
For our adult swimmers, open communication is an essential part of this process. We want to understand what you hope to achieve. Are you a complete beginner? Do you feel uncomfortable or anxious in deep water? Would you like to learn to swim independently, improve your front crawl or backstroke, or build confidence for swimming on holiday? Together, we identify your goals and work towards them step by step. Some swimmers progress quickly, while others need more time to develop trust and confidence. Both are perfectly fine.
Our adult swimming programmes include beginner swimming lessons, swimming lessons for adults with aquaphobia (fear of water), intermediate and advanced swimming lessons, technique improvement and private swimming lessons.
We believe that learning to swim should never feel like a competition. It is a personal journey in which every achievement matters.
Specialised swimming lessons for children and adolescents with special needs
For children and adolescents with special needs, we offer a carefully adapted approach that combines professional swimming instruction with patience, understanding and close cooperation with parents.
Our special needs swimming lessons welcome children and adolescents with autism (ASD), ADHD, Down syndrome, developmental delays, learning difficulties and other additional support needs.
An important part of our approach is the active involvement of parents or caregivers in the water. Parents know their children best, and we believe their knowledge is invaluable.
By working together, we learn to recognise each child’s individual needs, communication signals, motivations and potential challenges. This allows us to create a safe, supportive and enjoyable learning environment.
Depending on each swimmer’s abilities and personal goals, lessons may focus on water confidence, practical water safety, independent swimming, improving swimming techniques or working towards official Dutch swimming diplomas. We also offer opportunities for children and adolescents who are ready to progress towards more advanced swimming skills, including the Dutch B and C swimming diplomas.
Our goal is not simply to teach children and adolescents how to swim, but to help them develop confidence, independence and a positive relationship with the water.
Our philosophy is learning to feel the water
We believe that swimming is about much more than learning the correct strokes. Understanding how water works, learning to control your breathing, finding your balance and staying calm in unexpected situations are essential skills for swimmers of all ages. One of the most important things we teach is to feel the water rather than fight against it. When swimmers begin to relax and understand how the water supports their bodies, swimming becomes easier, more efficient and much more enjoyable.
This is particularly important for adult beginners and swimmers experiencing fear or anxiety around water. By building confidence gradually, we help students overcome personal barriers and discover what they are capable of.
Water safety is always a priority, but enjoyment is equally important. We want our swimmers to look forward to their lessons and feel proud of every step forward.
Swimming and water safety in the Netherlands
In a country surrounded by canals, rivers, lakes and the sea, learning to swim in the Netherlands is much more than a recreational activity; it is an essential life skill.
Whether you are a child growing up in the Netherlands or an international adult who has recently moved here, feeling confident and safe around water is incredibly important. The Dutch have a strong swimming culture, with swimming lessons and the recognised Dutch A, B and C swimming diplomas playing an important role in water safety education. At Well Cares Swimming, we embrace this culture while recognising that everyone has a different starting point. Our goal is to make swimming accessible, enjoyable and achievable for people of all ages and abilities.
