For children’s swimming lessons
For children with special needs and their parent/guardian
At Well Cares Swimming, we believe that every child can learn to swim in their own way and at their own pace. This code of conduct helps us create a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for everyone in the water.
Cooperation between child, parent and instructor
- The parent/guardian is present in the water during the lesson and supports the child when needed.
- The instructor gives guidance directly to the child or via the parent, depending on the child’s needs.
- We work together as a team: child – parent – instructor.
Calm and predictability - Lessons begin calmly, allowing time to get into the rhythm.
- The structure of the lesson is consistent and repetitive when possible, using visual cue cards.
- If the child is sensitive to stimuli or not yet verbally strong, instructions are adjusting accordingly.
Safety in and around the water - The parent always keeps the child within sight and within arm’s reach.
- The instructor maintains overview and calm but cannot hold or supervise each child individually.
- Swimming only takes place under the instructor’s supervision.
- Children may only enter or exit the water with the instructor’s approval.
- Running in the pool area and changing rooms is strictly prohibited.
- Floaties are mandatory and may only be removed with the instructor’s permission.
Behaviour in the water - We treat each other with respect: no splashing, pushing, or pulling underwater.
- Children are given the space to practice but are never forced.
- Positive reinforcement (compliments, encouragement) is key to building confidence.
Use of equipment - Floating devices and teaching aids are provided by the instructor.
- Materials must be used with care.
- The parent assists the child with using aids when necessary.
Agreements and communication - Always inform us if the child is feeling unwell, overstimulated, or needs extra support.
- Parents are welcome to share relevant information with the instructor before the lesson.
- After the classes, there is time for brief feedback if desired.
Respect and inclusion - Every child is unique and is encouraged to be themselves.
- We do not compare children to one another.
- We celebrate both small steps and big achievements together.
Photos and privacy - Photos or videos are only taken with the parent’s consent.
-Personal data is processed in accordance with the WCS privacy policy.
Final note
This code of conduct is meant as a guide, not a strict set of rules. Together, we ensure safety, trust, and joy in the water.
